Unit 8 Proposal
Section 1- Rationale
Through the first seven units, I have gained more experience in areas like confidence, technique, and knowledge. I now know a lot more about things like how my body works and what to exercise. Before coming to this college, I had never done ballet, but now I feel like attending ballet and jazz classes have really improved my technique. I have only ever done one big production, so to do shows and performances frequently helps prepare me for bigger productions in the future. I think that doing a musical would be a good chance for the whole class to showcase their skills and build up their confidence even more.
Section 2- Project Concept
I feel that our class will do really well with Rocky Horror Show as it gives us all a chance to showcase our talents, with it being a singing, dancing, and acting show. I think it will also force us to come out of our comfort zone a little, which is good because sometimes our class struggles with confidence. This would provide me with the opportunity to work on using my skills simultaneously, and also work on backstage elements. Rocky Horror is also very similar to 'Little Shop of Horrors', so I think that we will be fairly comfortable in what we're producing. Our class is particularly good at adapting to different roles very quickly, so I think that this will come in handy when rehearsing.
Section 3- Evaluation
For this project I am going to complete daily logs on what I do in class and in rehearsals. I will also complete research tasks on my character, the play, and background information so that I gain a deeper understanding of it.

Project Timeline
Week 1 (01/04-04/04): Learn my songs(as I can do this quickly so they'll be out of the way). Read through the script and highlight my lines and songs.
Week 2 (22/04-25/04): Learn my lines (hopefully ALL of Act 1 if not both). Start blocking Act 1, work on main choreography.
Week 3 (29/04-02/05): Propose make up and costume ideas. Start looking for main Brad costume, also think of what I can wear for 'Rose Tint'.
Week 4 (07/05-09/05): Start work on the poster, hopefully paint it same day.
Week 5 (13/05-16/05): Practise choreography and run through lines EVERYDAY!
Week 6 (20/05-23/05): Finish technical rehearsal successfully. Run through all the way at least twice so that we know transitions, costume changes etc.

Audition for Rocky Horror Picture Show
For my audition, I chose a monologue from 'Five Kinds Of Silence' by Shelagh Stephenson and 'A Million Dreams' from The Greatest Showman.
Monologue:
I had previously performed this monologue for my GCSE Drama performance and also my audition for Westminster Kingsway, so I was very familiar with it. I decided to change the delivery of it a little bit- originally I was on a chair. I think I delivered it quite well, and the rest of my classmates seemed very engaged with me.
Song:
I chose this song because it was comfortably in the middle of my range. I feel like I could have warmed up a little bit before singing as my voice wasn't feeling very warmed up, which is why I struggled to hit some notes.
What went well:
- Good projection
- Nice tone
- Good characterisation
- Powerful monologue
- Good facial expressions
- Maintained eye contact
- Good confidence
- Good diction
- Natural speech and body language
Even better if
- Breathe from your stomach
- Vary tone
- Be more grounded when singing
- Don't sway
- Use hands more
- Don't look straight down
- Pace yourself
- Breathe more
Information About Rocky Horror
In the early 1970's, Richard O'Brien wrote 'The Rocky Horror Show' because he wanted something that combined 50's rock and roll, the humour of B movies, 'schlock horror' and Steve Reeves muscle movies.
He took part of Rocky Horror to Jim Sharman (director), who then wanted it performed at the Royal Court Theatre (upstairs) in Sloane Square. Sharman had also directed successful productions such as Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar.

The cast included; Tim Curry, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell, Julie Covington, and Richard O'Brien. It ran at the Royal Court from 19 June 1973 till 20 July 1973. It received a new home for two months after doing well at the Theatre Upstairs. Rocky Horror did so well in theatres, it ran in numerous places up until 1980. It was also adapted into a film in 1975, renamed as ' The Rocky Horror Picture Show'.

My Character:Brad
Brad Majors is credited as a 'hero' in the production. He is portrayed as Janet's hero, always seeming to reassure her whenever she thinks things are out of the ordinary. Throughout the production, Brad is the only one who remains skeptical up until the floorshow he is forced to participate in, in which he gives in to his internal desires.
He is tall, slightly lean, with brown hair and horn-rimmed glasses. He wears a shirt underneath a jumper, trousers, a brown jacket and clean smart shoes.
Initial Production of Rocky Horror
Notes from the interview with Tim Curry:
- First played on stage at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs (an experimental theatre)
- Then went to classic cinema in Chelsea.
- It moved to LA, Lou Adler found it in London and took it there- Sunset Strip, Roxy Theatre. The Roxy wanted a piece of cabaret theatre to show producers
- The film version surprisingly didn't do well in the US, but in the UK people were going to see it over and over
- Tim Curry met Richard O'Brien(writer of Rocky Horror) while starring in Hair
- Tim Curry played Frank for a total of 7 years
- He explains how he felt like he was getting lost in the role, and how it was physically and mentally exhausting
- He picked up his Frank accent whilst on the bus in Chelsea from a maid
