Project Workshop 01/04/19

Today we met with Adam Billing, our technical director. His job is to sort out everything tech related for our show, which includes lights, costume, and set. Adam already had ideas for staging, set, and costume so we looked at those. He had a drawn out plan of the stage, which had steps either side of the front and the sides.

He also drew out some costume ideas. The first one we looked at was for Columbia: A gold sequin waist coat, shorts, and a top hat. Columbia's style was similar to the circus, so we thought this was appropriate. We then looked at Brad: a shirt, trousers, and bow tie. Brad's costume was sort of typical menswear, complete with a coat. We also spoke about the Phantoms costumes: All black, possibly capes, and black masks so that they could easily blend into the background.

I think it was really effective for us to work with a technical director because we had someone else's input as well as ours.

Project Workshop 02/04/19

Today in class we decided who should do which backstage roles. We had costume, make up, choreographing, and poster team. I chose make up and poster team as I had said previously in my presentation that I would like to work in make up. In our previous show I had worked on set, so I wanted to work in a different area. I'm quite an artistic person along with Nehemie, so we already had ideas for the poster.

Acting

Today we started reading through Rocky Horror as a whole cast to get a feel of the script and our characters. Prior to this, I had researched my character, Brad, so that I could prepare myself for rehearsing. To start with, we decided who would speak with an American accent, and who would be British. I said that Brad and Janet should be American because it sets them apart from the Transylvanians who are clearly from a different planet. We decided on Brad, Janet, Columbia, and Rocky being American.

We also sat down and went round in a circle talking about our characters. I said that Brad was the typical 'man' and he spent half his time reassuring Janet, wanting to seem like her hero. We were given a task for next lesson: To prepare three lines you think your character would say.

Project Workshop 23/04/19

We continued blocking from where we left off before we left for half term. Shelley started choreographing Time Warp just before the half term, and we had almost finished Act 1. We decided to keep running through Act 1 instead of doing the whole thing straight away because we needed to get the scenes blocked so that we could add in the songs.

Project Workshop 29/04/19

Today we started blocking Act 2, which started off with the sex scenes between Janet and Frank, and Brad and Frank. We spoke about how The two scenes needed to be as identical as possible, because they're supposed to be happening at the same time.

Tilia and Nehemie also performed what they had for Touch Me, and because we had a lot of spare time left, Nehemie started teaching us Rose Tint/Floorshow.

Project Workshop 30/04/19

We continued to learn the choreography for Rose Tint. When it got to Wild and Untamed Thing, we had to make sure that our legs were moving at the same speed and that we started kicking at the right time.

Project Workshop 07/05/19

Today we finished learning Time Warp. Me and Tilia had to make sure that everything we did was exaggerated because as we were going to be up on the stage, the audience would be able to see everything we did. For example, when everyone else is dancing to the line "and it's the pelvic thrust", Tilia faints and I catch her. We also discussed when we would get off the stage and join in with the others, because we couldn't be up on the stage the whole time, and in the stage version we watched they end up joining in.

Acting 07/05/19

We showed Monique what we had for Rose Tint, and went through Act 2. I had to make sure that all of my moves were exaggerated, and that I was fully in character.

In Act 2, I had trouble remembering some of the smaller lines like 'good god' and 'you mean you're gonna kill him'. I had to make sure I remembered who spoke before me so that I could get my line in the right place.

Project Workshop 14/05/19

Today we did the choreography to Eddie's Teddy. I had been given these lines in the song: 'but he never caused her nothing but pain', 'he was a low down cheap little punk', and 'hurry or I may be dead' as it made sense for me to say them because I knew Dr Scott.

We also did I Can Make You a Man which was quite short. I need to remember to pull Tilia back when she says 'I'm a muscle fan' but make sure I am facing the audience as well.

Singing 16/05/19

Today in singing we had our lesson in the studio. We needed to run through our dances with the singing, so this was a great opportunity to do so. I still stumble over the words in some songs, and I need to remember to put the 'I love you' in 'Dammit Janet' up an octave so it's not uncomfortable for my voice.

Jazz & Musical Theatre 16/05/19

Today instead of doing Jazz we rehearsed in front of Shannon and she gave us some feedback:

  • Come downstage more when singing 'Dammit Janet'.
  • Come downstage in 'Once In A While' so that I feel more closer to the audience, as I'm supposed to be telling them a story.
  • Rose Tint- more exaggerated movements
  • Remember little lines such as 'good god' to keep the scene flowing.

Technical Rehearsal 17/05/19

Today we started a technical rehearsal in the theatre. The purpose of this rehearsal was to sort out the lighting, staging, and set. Most of it was the tech team adjusting the lights for our positions on stage, which we had to bear with as it took quite some time.

As we we were running through, when we got to 'Time Warp' I noticed that the girls had character shoes on and they were making a lot of noise as they ran down the stage. I suggested that they take big steps to get off of the stage, and then run when on the floor to minimise the noise- which worked.

We also fixed our entrances and exits, and we had to make sure that we were careful of the side lights as they got very hot when they were on.

We got through it fairly quickly, although we didn't finish the ending as we ran out of time. I need to remember to stay in sight of the audience when me and Tilia go off to the side.

Rehearsals 20/05/19

Today we finished off doing the tech for Act 2. We also had head mics fitted, which did hinder progress a little bit as there were some technical difficulties, and we also didn't have enough for everybody.

We needed to remember how much time we had for things like costume changes, especially just before 'Rose Tint'. This proved to be very difficult as we had to change our whole costumes. I made sure to time how long I had between going off stage and the two verses, so that I knew how much time I had to get changed.

Rehearsals 21/05/19

Today in our rehearsals in the theatre, we found out that we could no longer use the radio mics because we needed 8, and we didn't have enough frequencies to support them on, which meant we had to rely on our own voices.

We also did a dress rehearsal, which we needed  lot. It gave us a chance to sort out timings so that we weren't rushing and didn't forget anything while changing.

Show Day 23/05/19

Today we performed our show to the students/teachers, and then our parents and friends. I feel that the evening performance went a lot better as we were more relaxed having performed it already.

I think that I could have been more confident in the matinee show, but my characterisation was a lot better, which is something I had been working on.
